Consultancy Services

At the Oncology Nurses Society of Kenya (ONS-K), we are committed to improving health outcomes by advancing patient-centered care across the cancer care continuum. Our members—who are highly trained oncology and palliative care nurses—are available to offer expert consultancy services in key areas such as clinical care, policy development, research, nursing education, administration, and health systems strengthening. With deep practical experience and academic expertise, ONS-K provides strategic guidance and evidence-based solutions to stakeholders looking to enhance oncology and palliative nursing services in Kenya and the region.

The burden of cancer continues to rise in Kenya, placing increasing pressure on the health system to provide responsive, equitable, and high-quality care. As the leading professional body for oncology and palliative care nurses in the country, the Oncology Nurses Society of Kenya (ONS-K) plays a central role in shaping the future of cancer care—through both practice and policy. In line with our mission to advance patient-centered, evidence-informed care, we offer a range of consultancy services aimed at strengthening cancer and palliative nursing across diverse settings.

Our consultancy offerings span the following areas:

1. Clinical Care Expertise

ONS-K consultants provide technical support in developing and implementing best-practice oncology and palliative nursing protocols across hospitals, hospices, cancer centres, and community-based programs. We support institutions in establishing or strengthening multidisciplinary cancer care teams, improving symptom management strategies, and integrating holistic approaches to patient care.

2. Policy and Strategy Development

Our experts work with national and county governments, NGOs, and international partners to develop health policies, cancer control strategies, nursing guidelines, and standards that are aligned with global best practices and local realities. We advocate for the inclusion of oncology nurses in decision-making and planning processes at all levels.

3. Nursing Education and Training

ONS-K designs and delivers customized training programs, workshops, and continuous professional development (CPD) courses for healthcare workers, focusing on oncology and palliative care. We also advise academic institutions on curriculum development for nursing schools, ensuring alignment with evolving cancer care needs.

4. Research and Evidence Generation

As part of our commitment to evidence-based practice, we engage in and support operational research, needs assessments, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) initiatives that inform cancer care delivery. Our members offer technical input on study design, data collection, dissemination, and utilization of research findings to improve patient outcomes.

5. Healthcare Leadership and Administration

ONS-K provides consultancy on strengthening health leadership and management systems, particularly in oncology nursing services. This includes workforce planning, quality improvement initiatives, and leadership coaching for nurse managers and administrators.

By offering these consultancy services, ONS-K contributes directly to Kenya’s National Cancer Control Strategy (2023–2027) and supports institutions aiming to scale up high-impact interventions in cancer care. Our approach is collaborative, ethical, and focused on sustainable capacity building.

We invite governments, hospitals, universities, development partners, and community organizations to engage with ONS-K as a trusted knowledge partner. Together, we can drive forward a robust, patient-centered oncology and palliative care agenda in Kenya and beyond.
